Delegation at SOLARIS MUN, Bathinda
On October 18th and 19th, a 15-member delegation of students from grades 6, 7, and 8 attended the SOLARIS MUN conference at St. Joseph’s Convent, Bathinda. Initially, first-time participants felt anxious, but under the guidance of Principal Sr. Shanthi, Vice Principal Sr. Sabina, and MUN in-charges Ms. Japleen and Ms. Sakshi, their concerns were alleviated.
The Opening Ceremony was presided over by Bathinda’s Honourable Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Showkat Ahmad Parray, and the host school’s Principal, Sr. Ophilia Lobo BS. Following the conference’s inauguration, delegates enjoyed a meal and proceeded to their respective committees, including UNDP, UNESCO, UNICEF, and UNHRC.
The agendas discussed included inclusive education for children with disabilities, human approaches to AI, and digitalized education in rural Africa. Each student represented a designated country, engaging in thoughtful discussions and critical thinking over the course of two days. The final session involved drafting papers and press releases.
After each committee session, delegates unwound in a fun MUN session, providing respite from the formal environment. The experience was enriching and rewarding, culminating in three awards: High Commendation (UNESCO) for Daanita Arora (Grade 8-A), Verbal Mention (UNICEF) for Shenaya Bedi, and Verbal Mention (UNDP) for Krish Malhotra (Grade 7-B).
SOLARIS 2024’s motto, “Ideate, Initiate, Implement,” resonated deeply, as our students learned, discussed, and grew as leaders.
