On November 9th, an informative and engaging orientation program was conducted for Grade 8 parents and students to introduce them to the subject choices and combinations available at the IGCSE level. This annual initiative aims to guide families in making well-informed decisions as students prepare for the next stage of their academic journey. The session began with a warm welcome and an emphasis on the importance of selecting subjects that align with students’ interests, strengths, and aspirations. Parents were introduced to the structure of the IGCSE curriculum and the wide range of subjects offered, along with the flexibility to choose combinations tailored to diverse learning paths.
Teachers representing various disciplines provided a comprehensive overview of their respective subjects, discussing the curriculum, assessment patterns, and career opportunities associated with each. This year, the school introduced four exciting new subjects: Political Science, History, Psychology, and English as a Second Language (ESL). These additions are designed to broaden academic options and cater to evolving interests, from fostering a deeper understanding of governance and global events to exploring human behavior and enhancing language skills for non-native English speakers.
The session concluded with a lively question-and-answer segment, where parents and students voiced their queries and concerns. Teachers addressed each question thoughtfully, providing clarity on subject requirements, balancing workloads, and future prospects. This interactive exchange reassured parents and helped them feel more confident about their children’s academic choices.
The orientation successfully equipped parents and students with valuable insights into the IGCSE curriculum while reinforcing the school’s commitment to fostering a well-rounded, supportive learning environment. With collaborative efforts between educators and families, the program set the stage for a smooth and successful transition into the IGCSE years.
